PREVENTION OF FALLING OVEROARD -non-slip rubber carpets in front of side openings, only for coastal use
-side openings closed at sea
-male crew and passengers briefed about use of toilets to prevent dangerous position
-weed and other fouling immediately cleared from deck
-if oil falls above deck, it must be immediately cleaned with solvent
-no wires, cables or hoses impeding free passage on deck

CRANE USE
( the crane is protected against overload ) -only qualified operators
-nobody except operators in the crane radius
-glasses, gloves and protection boots for any crane handling operation
-when above deck, load is to be kept as low as possible
-no damaged lifting slings
-use of crane and no manual handling of heavy items, to prevent back pain

DIVERS SAFETY -always 2 divers on board, and one dedicated assistant
-at least 2 persons able to answer immediately the question " Where is the diver ?"
-reducing of in water time by proper use of crane and tools
-wireless surface-diver communication if necessary
-use of U/W video to brief everybody concerned by diver's job
-engine start procedure strictly controlled to forbid any risk with propellers
-no object or chain able to fall overboard on diver

INDIVIDUAL SAFETY -lifejacket at all times
-helmet if any risk from above ( around the crane and under a quay )
-eyes protection absolutely compulsory when using grinder, torch, hammer, HP cleaner, around someone welding and if concrete is handled
-sunglasses if sunny ( cataract is a major long term risk for sailors )
-warm weathergear if required ( spare ones on board )
-leather protection and special glasses for welding or torch operators

TOOL'S CARE
( good and safe work is only possible with good tools ) -stored at the right place after use
-throwing tools on deck forbidden : they must be carefully laid in safe place
-no water spreading over electric or pneumatic tools
-electric wires or hoses carefully stored
-unplug tools before changing blades, discs etc
-no damaged cutting disks

FIRE RISK -position of fire fighting equipment is posted on the main door and in the wheelhouse
-no welding or torch above aluminium but strictly over steel plate or non fire material
-water bucket ready
-petrol engine tools : permanent check of tanks and cans. Forbidden in accomodation.
-2 persons when using torch, one close to gas valves, ready to shut them
-INISHGLAS IS A STRICTLY NON SMOKING VESSEL

SHIPS SAFETY DURING WORKS the master, or an officer, is in charge to check at all times :
- position and / or anchor holding
- stability and load on deck
- weather, tide and stream evolution
- ability to start engines, and propellers clear
- no leak of hydraulic oil
- no risk of fire
- diesel and fluids levels

SHIPS SAFETY IN HARBOUR - anchor line or warps safe
- no dangerous tools on deck
- no unstable load
- all off except anchor light or deck light if necessary
- passengers out of bollards areas

Work can only begin after a safety briefing with everybody involved. The master is the only responsible of the decision of beginning and end of works

Anyone boarding must read the present safety plan which must be conspicuously posted Any passenger boarding for works will be adressed to the relevant crew
